Today is the first day of Spring! It feels like it has been such an incredibly long time since she was last here, and I can’t wait for her to start greening things up and making the world beautiful again. I think perhaps of all the seasons I dislike the end of fall, sliding into winter. Everything gets brown and grey and ugly. Sometimes the only thing that keeps me going is knowing that soon – very soon in the South and on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, we will welcome spring as the trees will bud, flowers will bloom, and the temperatures will be warm enough for us to be on the beach every Saturday afternoon.
Soon. Very soon.
It is beginning. The calendar might say that today is the first day of spring, but her tentative fingers have been lightly touching our world – opening it up and preparing it, sending beauty creeping out into the air…as the cars and roadways covered in the tell-tale yellow pollen dust can bear witness.
This year the plum tree at Gumbo Acres is in bloom again. We are hoping to get fruit this year – nothing quite like a juicy, ripe plum…or plum jelly or jam.
And of course, there are the weeds – the ones you know you should pull or somehow eradicate but can’t bring yourself to do because they bring a touch of beauty or whimsy to the world at just the moment you might need it.
What is spring looking like where you are? Are you starting to bloom, like the flowers and trees? Or are you still wrapped up in winter’s embrace?
Where I’m linking up today.
