I love these weekends. I love them. The only way that this weekend would have been better would have been to have had Sweet Husband here with me the entire time, but he was having way too much fun with his Daddy in God’s Country at Mississippi State. This is one where I feel like I truly need a weekend unwind – another day to recover – and I suppose I sorta do, which is a good thing, because I’ll be sitting in PD all day tomorrow, working on lesson plans. There are a thousand other things that I need to be doing tomorrow, but I’m grateful for the fact that I get to sleep in for two extra hours. That’s a plus.
To get back to the weekend, though, because Mississippi State football was playing perhaps the biggest game in its history against Auburn this weekend, SH and his Daddy made their way up to Columbus, MS to Lake Lowndes State Park where a friend works and got them a cabin for the evening. They wanted to make sure that they could be at the Junction for College Game Day early enough to perhaps be on TV.
His trip meant that I had lots of time to feed my introverted self, which didn’t bother me at all. The doggies and I stayed home Friday night and watched my Kansas City Royals take game 2 of the American League Championship Series from the Baltimore Orioles. I cannot tell you how excited I am about this whole thing, how long I have waited. I believe, much like the New York Times that my Royals could win the whole damn thing. I believe…even though it’s very difficult for me at times and I have to remind myself that there’s a reason why we play all 9 innings. Like when we let the Orioles tie the game up and had to wait until the 9th to really put the game to bed.
Saturday when I checked the mail, I noticed a package on the front porch. It was addressed to SH, so I didn’t open it. This is what was in it…for me.
Friday night’s game required extra innings to put it to bed, which meant it didn’t end until after midnight. i was too keyed up to sleep for quite awhile, and I think it was probably about 2:30 before I finally got to bed, which is not a good thing because I needed to be up around 5:00 in order to make it to New Orleans in time to participate in the New Orleans Photo Walk, part of Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photo Walk. Let me tell you – working on just a few hours of sleep (& no coffee!!) was not a recipe for success.
I was paired with two lovely women – Martha and Trish. They were wonderful and so very much more experienced than I, which is always a bit (OK – a lot) intimidating to me. Most of the time, I feel like I don’t know what I’m doing, and when I’m around people who do, my Impostor Syndrome kicks into high gear. It didn’t help that at the beginning I was having trouble getting some of my settings right, so my photos were turning out. I think I started to get it, but I’m not sure. I haven’t even touched the photos, not even to take the memory card out of my camera to transfer them to the computer, because I know that right this minute, I don’t have time. I have the photos that I will use for my posts this week; those photos will go for next week so I’ll work on them later in the week. Right now, there’s to much else to do.
I enjoyed the time, though, and if you follow me on Instagram, you saw a few photos posted from New Orleans. I have a few others for you here, though. New Orleans is ready for Halloween.
Interestingly, this house is usually elaborately decorated for every holiday you can imagine, and I knew Halloween would be no different. For added effect, there just happened to be a man sleeping on the bench in front of the house, effectively completing the tableau. I did giggle, though, at the tourists who were standing across the street taking pictures, who asked with real concern, “Is he dead? Do you think we need to call somebody? 9-1-1? What do we do?” As I moved closer to take my own photos, the gentleman shifted on the bench, looking for a more comfortable place for his head, I guess. The tourists walked on.
I came home to cut the grass and get ready for my baseball game, but only one of those things happened. I don’t normally cut the grass, but I figured that I would do something nice for SH. Unfortunately, the lawn mower was having some serious issues. I did get the weedeater started, though! Which is something SH hasn’t been able to do all summer. I don’t know why it decided to work for me. Like I told SH, all I did was follow the directions: Prime it 10 times, flip the switch and pull the cord. Boom! Started right up. So at least the trimming is done for him. I’m not sure when he’ll get around to figuring out what’s wrong with the mower because it’s a busy week for him but I hope it’s soon. Our yard needs it – and it’s full of sand burrs. I hate sand burrs.
SH made it home this morning, and we’ve been catching up while watching football all day long. The puppies missed him terribly. They are funny in the way that they are so attached to him. Both doggies spent much of the weekend going to the back door and looking for him. They are definitely his dogs.
All of the laundry in this house is done. Even that random stuff that lives in the bottom of the baskets in the laundry room. I don’t know how that happened. Even the dog beds are clean. The bed is made up with fresh sheets (& and the new super mattress pad! from Costco! It is awesome). Now, none of my school work is done, but that’s OK. I’m not sure why I even bother to bring it home because the truth of the matter is that I won’t do it anyway. Better to just leave it where it belongs…at work.
It was a good weekend, and I’m sad to see it go.
The weekend recap, of course, always brings us to the intentions for the week. I’m trying to be a bit more realistic in what it is that I want to accomplish during the week. It’s going to be busy for both SH and me, so I’m taking that into account with my intentions.
