I think it’s no secret that I can generally manage to post Monday – Wednesday, sometimes Sunday night, but beyond that, getting a daily post up is a struggle for me. I have a really, really hard time coming up with enough content to get me through the rest of the week. I’ve tried a few different schemes to help me with generating content, but none of them have worked for me long-term.
So this morning as I was doing my morning pages, I was thinking. Specifically about regular features and how I can create sustainability for myself and this writing done here. It was then that I realized that there’s a reason why people say that blogging does totally take planning. No matter what I decided to go with, it can’t be successful if I’m scrambling to put it in place at 10 o’clock the night it’s supposed to be posted. Which means I have to spend more time thinking. That may even mean that my morning pages might have to be focused on what I’m going to be writing about that night…in effect prewriting for that evening’s post. And I’m OK with that. I just have make sure that I actually get up in time to get my exercise in and leave myself enough time to write and think. Or I need to actually begin the thinking while I’m exercising, more accurately.
With all of that in mind, I’ve mapped out the following features for my blog:
- Mindful Monday
- Tuesday Thanksgiving
- Wishcasting Wednesday
- Friday Fitness Round-Up
- Garden Report
- This Week in Photos
- Weekend Unwind
I imagine that the Garden Report will take the place of Thoughtful Thursdays, and I think it particularly fits because even though there isn’t a garden all the months of the year, we area almost always working in the yard (that’s one of the beauties of living in South Mississippi) and if we’re not working in the yard, we’re planning on it.
As I continue to get healthy, there is plenty to write about with regard to the week’s fitness: what have I accomplished in the week? Weight loss? Inches lost? New exercises? Best tip? Motivation? Photo of my progress? Recipe of a good-and-good-for-me meal. There are so many things, and I think I might be most excited about this new feature.
The other one that is different is This Week in Photos, although I don’t know if that’s what it will stay. When I was writing about it this morning, I said “photo essay”. I’d like to be focused, but in doing some preliminary research about what exactly a photo essay is, I’m not sure I can pull that off every week. I might be able to do it once a month, though, and the rest of the time I could do a “week in photos” type deal. I am excited about what that feature could become, although it makes me very nervous at the same time.
I feel like I’ve got a plan that can work for me, and I’m excited about that.
What would you like to see in this space?
