When we went to Austin for Sweet Husband’s Uncle Bubba’s wedding, SH had one request. He needed to make a pilgrimage to visit with Stevie. Stevie Ray Vaughan, that is. SH comes from a family where music is important, and by important, I mean it’s a huge part of their lives. His daddy plays in a band (this past weekend they were the headliners for a huge Christian biker rally). All of their pets are named after musicians. Regular attendance at concerts is a regular expectation.
And for a family that is well-versed in classic rock n’ roll and guitars, Stevie Ray Vaughan holds a special place in the pantheon. He is important. Occasionally you can hear SH’s daddy doing his best at replicating Stevie. There’s a Stevie Ray Vaughan CD in the changer most of the time. One of SH’s cats was named Stevie Ray.
Stevie is a Big. Deal.
It took us a minute to find him…which is never a good thing when SH is driving. He’s not the most patient person, and when the GPS didn’t take us directly to this personal version of Mecca, it got a little tense. Fortunately using a different map app on the phone took us right where we needed to be…although not without some grousing about losing the perfect parking spot.
…and then we were there, all was forgiven, and SH was wandering through a waking dream, happy as could be.
This week I’m linking up with Kathy of You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out for her Song-ography feature, which combines photos with music. This week, the song is “Pinch Me” by the Barenaked Ladies.
