I feel like I’m beginning to get myself together with regard to 2015 and what I want to do with my blog. Or perhaps I’m just basking in the glow of the fact that this past weekend I was actually able to get out and take a few shots for what I’m going to make my 52 Weeks Project. I’ve decided that I want the theme of my project to be “See Mississippi.” I’ve lived here off and on for a decade now, and I know there are many sites here that I have yet to make it to. I intend to make 2015 my year of Mississippi photos – in all her glory and tragedy. If all goes according to plan, my Photo Friday post will bring you photos from that week.
This past weekend, as we were making our plans for Monday, I mentioned to Sweet Husband that I wanted to get out around sunset to take some pictures – if I could somewhere with piers or birds or both, that might be fantastic. He readily offered to take me out to the place where he and the Sner had gone over Christmas – where she had captured quite an amazing pelican shot on her cellphone.
We managed to get out there a little too early to take advantage of optimal light. It was bright, and with the position of the birds relative to the sun, it was difficult to get good shots. When you combine that with the fact that I was using my zoom lens almost fully extended and I have yet to convince SH of the necessity of a good tripod, I had trouble getting clear shots. There were a few, though.
Here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, we have an abundance of brown pelicans. When most people think about pelicans, they probably picture the bigger white pelican. At least I always pictured the bigger white pelican. The little guys here along the coast are different.
Even though they aren’t quite as majestic as their larger cousins, our Brown Pelicans are still magnificent birds. Hope you’ve enjoyed them! Stayed tuned for next week’s Mississippi photos!
