I know that just recently, I’ve posted photos of the garden spider at Gumbo Acres for Photo Friday, but tonight she was fairly amazing. I wasn’t so much looking at her when I noticed her. In fact, I thought she had moved. I focused on her new friend, who had set up shop just a few feet away from her, and then realized that there were actually two garden spiders in the knock-out roses at Gumbo Acres.
Original Garden Spider didn’t quite mind, though. She was busy collecting dinner from her web. I’m not sure that I’ve ever seen a spider with something as big as this moth caught in her web. Small flying insects, yes. Other smaller spiders, sure. Nothing as large as this moth. I was trying to get underneath because apparently the moth has been there for a minute. The cocooning underneath the moth and around the bottom was much more substantial than what was around the rest of the sacrifice. I briefly thought about letting it go – destroying the web, but then I wondered what the point of that would be. The moth was already dead and had been dead. Why not let the spider have her dinner?
For some reason, The Lion King plays in my head…
Hope y’all have had a wonderful Friday and have an outstanding weekend planned!
