I’m participating in Kat and Meredith’s August Moon, and today’s prompt is as follows:
Kat writes: What word did you choose as your travelling companion in 2013? How is it working for you? Where have the surprises been? If you didn’t choose a guiding word, what word sums up your year so far? And why?
My word for the year is “Connect”. Back in January, I said that I wanted to connect more with the people around me…make new friends, work to reconnect with old friends, connect with my passions and my health.
I think on the whole, I’ve done an OK job with “connect”, although I haven’t been as mindful as it as I should have been this whole year. I think in some ways it has been working in the background. I’ve gotten closer to some people, established some practices that have helped keep me sane, started and gotten away from others that are really good for me.
It’s a good reminder of the goals I set for myself early in the year. I still think that “connect” is the word. I feel like it’s the one that I want to guide me the rest of the year. There are lots of changes coming, and I think that the idea of connecting is more important than ever for me. In the coming week, I’ll have an opportunity to connect with some folks and spend time with them. Some of them, I haven’t seen since my wedding, some even longer. And that will be good. I’ll also have time during the coming week to think about how I connect to those things that are important to me. I have the time to do some serious planning and thinking. I need to take advantage of that.
I was worried a few weeks ago about my connections, but as I’ve reached out, I’ve found that they are generally as strong as they were. I’ve been a little shaken lately by this sense of betrayal, but those who have been interested in and invested in my success are still there in the background, cheering for me and moving me forward to where I need to be. Falling back on those connections and those vibrations of goodness are balms to the soul right now, reassurances that it is going to be OK.
How about you? What word are you traveling with this year? And how is it working for you?
