What a good weekend! Even though I didn’t get nearly everything done that I had planned to do. That seems like a theme in my life, doesn’t it?
We spent the afternoon finishing up the front flower bed. Or at least planting it. We need to get some more mulch in but all of the planting for that section of the bed is done, and that makes me incredibly happy. That means that we can move on to the next section of bed, which is just about right. The day lilies are about to go on clearance so we can begin strategic planning for that curve behind the roses. Oh! And today at Lowe’s I saw yellow knock-out roses! I know exactly where some of those need to go in our gardens.
The front porch is almost ready as well! I potted the last of the awesome deals we got at Old Time Pottery in Orange Beach, and then Sweet Husband and I moved the daybed into its place of honor. I cannot wait to get outdoor fabric and get the cover for the mattress made as well a ton of pillows. As soon as I get that done, I can photograph it, and you all can see what an incredibly inviting place our front porch is. And then I can make the privacy curtains out of drop cloths while the Sweet Husband refinishes our swing for the lower patio.
It never ends, does it?
Sweet Husband and I had a great day on Saturday. I did a little shopping while he worked on school stuff, and then we went to Bay St. Louis for their Second Saturday festivities. It was our first time attending, so we didn’t know how it actually worked. Next time we go, we know that we should go around 3:00 (for parking you know). We had a great time, though. Poked into shops, drank some wine, ate some food, and bought a few things. We’ve been collecting decanters for our liquor cabinet, and there were two awesome ones that were actually reasonably priced. They both needed to come home with us. Now two things have to happen: we need to buy the booze to fill them and I need to get on making labels for them so we don’t get confused as to what’s what. 😉 At any rate, we loved Second Saturday, and I believe that we will be making it a regular date on our calendar.
One of the things we picked up at Second Saturday was an old rusted oyster basket. At Lowe’s today we bought a bunch of coconut husks to line it with because my fern that has busted out of its pot and is way too big to be in any hanging basket I can find locally. Sweet Husband is sure he can hang the oyster basket with the fern in it. And if he can’t, the basket is cool enough that it doesn’t matter. It can sit on the lower patio with the fern growing out of it. Hopefully I’ll get it potted tomorrow night.
The only downside to Second Saturday is that I believe I sprained my ankle. The sidewalks in Bay St. Louis are occasionally a little funky. When you combine that with my innate sense of grace, things can go south real fast. I kept trying to figure out why my right foot hurt. Then I remembered. I am so graceful. *sigh* It’s not a terrible sprain. It didn’t keep me from doing yard work this afternoon. But I need to get back to my fitness routines, and the hurty ankle doesn’t do a whole lot to make it easy for get back to walking 3-5 miles a day.
And speaking of getting back to my routines, let’s talk for a minute about the coming week:
One of my good friends from Louisville is coming to visit this week! I’m so excited to see her because it’s been over 2 years since I saw her. – as a side note, wow! it’s been 2 years since I left Louisville. That kinda makes me sad – Her visit means that there is lots to be done before she arrives Wednesday night. There’s cleaning to be done, primarily. I was going to do some of that this weekend, but I had a better offer.
This week I have got to get back to my health routines. Eating better, exercising, taking my medicine the way I’m supposed to. All of those things that I have gotten away from in the last two weeks because I haven’t been well. Part of why I didn’t write much this week, other than issues with my hosting company, was because I wasn’t feeling well. I’m going to be back on track. Even if it kills me.
I’m also going to be posting regularly this week (even with company!), and making sure that I get my writing done each morning.
How about you? How was your weekend? What was the highlight? And what are you looking forward to this week?
