I came home Friday night drained and wiped out, and I think that level of emotional exhaustion has carried through the rest of the weekend. I’m tired. Incredibly tired. Today Sweet Husband and I slept until 8:30, which doesn’t sound like it’s that late, but when you consider that we have two sweet doggies who are used to getting up and going out sometime around 5:30 – 6:00, that’s incredibly late.
We got up, went out to breakfast, stopped by Lowes for a few things, and came home to go back to bed. I think I stirred back to life around 2:30. Sweet Husband got up at 4:30 or so when I was out planting the citronella plants that were part of the haul from the Fresh Market in the Garden District yesterday.
I think our front porch is just about done…in terms of the plants that are out there. Sweet Husband picked up sandpaper and stain while he was browsing at Lowes this morning so that he can sand my daybed, the table, and the chairs and then stain them all the same. Once he gets done, the day bed will ready to add to the porch and then i can work on creating a cover for it and can start collecting outdoor pillows for it. I’m pretty sure I don’t need any more plants for out there. But there are probably some other decorative elements that I can start looking to place out there.
Funny aside–I think we’ve put more effort into the yard and the porch than we have the interior of the house. Perhaps something needs to change about that. This fall. I’ll make the interior a priority this fall.
Sweet Husband bought a truckload of mulch so we could get the corner flowerbed done and have some left-over for re-mulching the other beds. Most of the corner bed is done. And we have 3/4s of a truckload of mulch to go. *sigh* I’m not sure that we will ever ned to buy mulch again. Ever. I guess that means that as soon as we finish mulching that corner bed I need to begin pulling weeds where the daylilies are going to go so we can do a bit of pre-emptive mulching. And clean out that other corner and mulch it. Even though we aren’t ready to start planting. Begin prepping it, I suppose. Because we’ve got a TON of mulch.
Yesterday was a balm for the wounded soul. I went to New Orleans with my friend the Princess for a photography workshop. We had such a good time! We spent the morning walking around the Garden District taking pictures, and then we spent the afternoon wandering around the Garden District shopping, drinking, and talking. We didn’t leave until well after 5:00, and that meant a full day in the city. It will soon be too hot for visits to New Orleans, but every time I go, I am reminded of how much I love that city. And every time I spend time with my friends, I am reminded of how much I love them and miss them. It was what I needed at that moment in time, and we need to schedule more time together.
As this weekend winds to a close, I suppose that it’s time to begin thinking about the coming week. As always, I’m thinking about the things that I want to accomplish:
- Getting back on track with my health and fitness goals. I’ve been slacking the last couple of weeks. I’m not sure what has been going on but it’s time to get it together.
- Re-do the Amy Butler Weekender bag and get it ready for our beach trip the following weekend.
- Sew a nursing cover for a friend’s baby gift.
- Get the front flower bed finished.
- Clean off my desk at work.
- Clean my house (it needs it).
- Schedule an art walk.
- Take a photo a day.
How was your weekend? And what do you have planned for the coming week?
