I’m not sure this weekend could have been any better than it was. In addition to the gorgeous weather, there was just so much good stuff going on here on the Coast!
Perhaps one of the things that helped make this past weekend so incredibly awesome was that I’m officially on spring break! 2:30 Friday felt like it was never going to get here. I could tell that I was in pretty desperate need of a break from my children because I felt like I was barely making it through the day and my patience was absolutely gone. My frustration level was incredibly high. I found myself clenching my fists on Friday. Not because I was going to hurt anyone but because I was just so very frustrated. As soon as we got the all clear to leave, I grabbed my bag and headed out the door. Unfortunately, I left one of the things I needed in order to plan lessons for the week we get back, but whatever. I’ll make due.
I came home and met Sweet Husband and one of his co-workers for margaritas. There’s a great little Mexican restaurant around the corner from our house. Because we were both tired, though, it was just a margarita and some cheese dip before coming home to take a little nap. It wasn’t a terribly exciting Friday night at Gumbo Acre South. I ran out to Michaels for some supplies for a Spring Break project, but that’s as exciting as we got. We may have, in fact, been in bed by 10:00. You know that you are jealous.
Saturday was a true gem of a day. The doggies let me sleep in a little and I got up to have some coffee and do a little writing. When Sweet Husband got up, I convinced him to take me to the local thrift shops so we could search for a chest of drawers and a dresser. Sweet Husband has needed a dresser since before we got married. It’s slightly ridiculous that we haven’t bought him a dresser before this point. I have tried to make it happen before now, but I’m finally sick of it. I essentially told Sweet Husband if I found something for the right price, I was buying it and he needed to get used to it. He said OK.
We finally found something that we liked! And the price was right! We got both the chest and dresser for $285. While they aren’t exactly what we wanted, they are decent quality and will work well for us. They are a good mix of real wood and composite, but everything is solidly constructed and heavy. I think what I love most about them are the carved doors. So much fun! We started the process of painting them today. Sweet Husband took all the hardware off, and I started priming them. Everything is ready for me to apply paint tomorrow. I can’t wait to see what they look like when it’s all done (which will hopefully be tomorrow except for the new hardware, which I’ll look for when I head to New Orleans Wednesday.
After our very successful shopping trip, we had a very tasty lunch at Salute. Some appetizers, a martini, a small plate. a lovely time of sitting with Sweet Husband, enjoying excellent food and talking. Because we are apart during the week, it’s always very nice to be able to reconnect in ways like that.
After lunch, we headed to Bay St. Louis for Second Saturday with our friends. Second Saturday is a great event, and we try to make it each month. It’s been a few months since we’ve been, though. It was great to see our friends again, and we had so much fun wandering through old town, sipping free wine, moving in and out of shops. Sweet Husband and I got a Mother’s Day gift for his grandma, and I picked up a lovely Mississippi State burlap pillow for the front porch. The weather was beautiful – I needed a light jacket, but other than that, it was a perfect night.
As Second Saturday wound down, Sweet Husband and made our way to watch a couple of his co-workers play in their semi-pro football league. I had no idea that we even had such a thing down here, but we do. It wasn’t the greatest game, but it was fun to get out and see some football in the spring. Completely unexpected.
Today has been another fabulous day. We got up and headed out to Lowes, where we saw our favorite cashier and scored a ton great plants on the cheap. I suppose that some time this week I will work on getting them into pots and the ground. We also picked up the supplies I needed to pain our furniture finds. Because our bedroom is done in blues and whites, we decided to go with a yellow for our furniture. The color we picked out is Pineapple soufflé. I can’t wait to see it on, which will happen tomorrow because I spent most of this afternoon and evening priming the pieces.
The furniture has changed my plans for spring break a bit. Today was supposed to be the day that I got all of my school work done. That didn’t happen. Tomorrow was supposed to be the day that I got caught up on my sewing. That won’t happen either. I suppose I’ll be moving it to a different day in the week. I suppose that the art project I was going to work on may get put off for awhile. I was looking forward to giving it a try, although I was apprehensive about it as well. (I’ve never tried anything like it before) I suppose that as long as I get the furniture done, make my trip to New Orleans, sew my drapes and the daybed cover, and get my school work done, that’s all that matters. I just had so many plans, you know? And to be honest, I knew that those plans weren’t going to work out. I realized that I was being overly ambitious from the beginning.
As for my intentions for the week, other than getting the aforementioned things done, my biggest intention is to remember that I’m on vacation this week and to relax and enjoy it.
