About a year ago, all of our friends started having babies, which means that it’s time for the birthday parties to start. A month ago, we had Walker’s first birthday, and earlier this week, I brought you some pictures from that celebration. This weekend it was Gracen’s turn. The sweet Princess of this group of babies had her first birthday at a local fun jump place, and we enjoyed getting to catch up with such a sweet baby and all of our friends.
Of course, what we enjoy most about these parties is getting to spend time with our friends – even when we are tiny people. You never know what kind of shenanigans are going to go on – like perhaps a bit of kindergarten matching-making.
The other thing we go to kids’ birthday parties we go to is to see little ones wind up with cake all over their faces. Our sweet Gracen is too much of a Princess to turn herself into a cake monster. She was dainty and lady-like the entire time.
Presents don’t mean a whole lot for one-year olds, and come to think of it, until kids are about 5, they really don’t care much about presents. We give little kids gifts because we are supposed to, and because we know that their parents could use the support – there are so many things that kids need, and if we can give kids something that is nice – rather than a need – then it frees up parental money for the things sweet Princesses and Princes actually need. Sweet Husband and I give books; we’re teachers – it’s kind of part and partial to who we are. With the statistics about how important it is to have books in the home, to read to and talk to our babies – we feel that all of these sweet babies are going to get enough toys and ya-yas from grandparents and friends who can’t resist that terribly cute thing, but there can never be too many books. And we don’t mind giving books; I might enjoy spending time at the book store poking around more than anything.
It’s hard to not be happy at a baby’s birthday party, and when you have a baby as cute as Princess Gracen, it’s hard not to be overjoyed that she’s celebrating another year of life. We loved getting to spend some time with our friends and these sweet little people this afternoon. How can you not love this face?
