Because there are documented benefits to a regular practice of gratitude, I take Tuesdays to give thanks for all of the wonderful things in my life.
Thee are a couple of big things for which I am grateful this week.
- My Sweet Husband. I know he’s a wonderful man. I am incredibly lucky to be married to him. He worked really hard to give me an incredible birthday weekend, and yesterday during my Very Bad Day he brought me lunch and worried about me. Which is enough in and of itself, but tonight when we just popped into Wal-Mart to grab some coffee creamer and some cereal, he remembered that he needed to get two of his boys birthday cards. And then he decided that they needed cakes. Each their own because who knows if they’ve ever had their own. And then the rest of his boys needed cupcakes and ice pops. And then we needed a gift for the boys. Because he was pretty sure if he didn’t do it, his boys wouldn’t get anything. Those boys give him hell every day. But my sweet marshmallow of a man couldn’t just let them not have something. So he did it. And I love him for it. The care and love he gives to me is the same care and love he gives his boys.
- My family. I won’t lie. Part of the appeal of my Sweet Husband (other than him, see above) is his family. We spent the weekend in Hattiesburg, and it was a great weekend. Because our family did their best to make it that way. Because that’s the kind of people they are and because they love us.
- A writing practice. Today I bought a new writer’s notebook. I’ll have filled the old one by tomorrow or the next day. I started the old one on April 27. I think that this may be the fastest that I’ve ever filled a notebook. It probably doesn’t hurt that I’m spending almost 30 minutes every morning writing. I am grateful for that time. It doesn’t feel like I’m doing a whole lot of productive writing, but I’m writing almost every day, and that’s a very good thing.
- Outstanding Co-Workers. I work with some great people. And during my Very Bad Day, they were as great as it gets.
I know I’m lucky. It’s hard to complain about this life I get to live. There are moments of incredible sweetness, and I’m so very thankful for all of it.
For what are you thankful this week? What blessings are you counting?
