In Mondo Beyondo, Andrea Scher discusses the need to create a clearing in which dreams can be nurtured and are able to take flight. There are all sortss of ways to create that clearing…ridding your home and space of things that you don’t need, practicing meditation, daily practices that allow your creativity to blossom, etc.
At the end of December, I very consciously went through my closest and dresser and came up with several bags of clothing that either needed to be thrown away or donated. I need to go through boxes and things that are stashed in hall closets to purge those places as well. There are hundreds of things in this house that take up space that could be open and inviting, and I am seriously considering something like the 100 Things 100 Days project to help keep my life and the debris that surrounds it under control. It is not that I want to live a minimalist life; there are many things I want. Many beautiful things I want. I just want the things I have to be things that are incredibly important and meaningful.
This afternoon, I spent quite organizing my desk and what we loving refer to as the office. I want a file cabinet, but until I find one that I particularly like, I have a basket on my desk that I can put files in. Papers were organized, files created, things thrown away. I still need to go to the store and buy myself beautiful file folders, which is at odds with my desire to acquire fewer things, I know.
My desk is clear and there is space for me to write in the morning. The chair is clear, and I can sit there and read…or meditate. There is also space there for me to begin to create my Full Moon Dream Board. In my clear work space this evening, I began to look for the images of all the things that I am hungry for in the coming year. It is relief to have created the space to do the work I want to do.
The next steps in this process are to continue to clear my home of clutter and begin to create the same clearing in my work environment. I also must create a clearing in my physical body–gaining strength so as to allow my mind the freedom to work in ways that are most productive to my goals and desires.
How are you creating clearings in your lives? What processes to you go through in order to give yourself the space to accomplish your dreams?
