Welcome to another edition of Photo Friday! It’s been a long week here, and I think some Mardi Gras photos are just the thing to bring everything back in to focus so to speak. Even though last week was a Krewe of Iris week, I really only scratched the surface of the parade, and this week’s Photo Friday post will be the exact same. Recall I said that I took over close to 700 pictures? I’ve shared less than 30 of them with you, which is a good thing because it means I’ll be bringing you more Mardi Gras pictures over the next few weeks.
For this week’s Photo Friday, I’m focusing on the marching and rolling krewes that take part in Tucks. Even with that narrow of a focus, and with culling photos, I’ve got 75 to share…although I’m narrowing it down to 10-15 for today’s post.
You can find just about everything in a Mardi Gras parade. The Shriners roll. Bands of Star Wars nuts roll. Girls enamored with the 1940s march. While I love the floats, I think I might love these marching krewes and their personality even more…despite the fact that they do not really have throws. Sometimes it’s not all about the beads! I love to see the passion and folks who are just having one helluva time.
One of my absolute favorite marching krewes is The Dragons of New Orleans. They are such incredible creations! Unfortunately, this year I was unable to get very many good pictures – they move by so very fast.
I mean…how do you not love THAT?!?!
There are also the New Orleans riding clubs and the Mardi Gras Cowboys and Indians.
The horses are remarkably well-behaved for all the chaos that surrounds Mardi Gras. There was one this year that got a little high strung, but they were able to get her back in line.
Then there are the Muffalettas. I just love them. I think they are my favorites…besides the Sexah Monkey Organ Grinders…whom again, I didn’t really capture this year.
This week’s Photo Friday post is only a teaser. There are so many more photos I want to share with you! I’ll just leave you with this one last picture.
(see that apron she is wearing? That is hand-beaded…a nod to the Mardi Gras Indians and their elaborately beaded costumes)
I hope your week has been incredible. Here on the MS Gulf Coast, it has been a struggle. We’re in the middle of IEP season, which means I’m working overtime to get work done before my school district’s deadline. We’ve been dealing with severe weather, and I’ve been battling overwhelming exhaustion. I had the realization earlier this week that something had to give, and when I looked at the things I could set aside in favor of sleep or the work that pays the bills, blogging was what drew the short-end of the stick. I almost didn’t make this post, but I look forward to seeing what y’all are sharing so much that I couldn’t not post. Things will quiet down after next week, when all of my IEPs are done, and I’ll get back to normal. Until then, though, things here on the blog will be quiet. I appreciate the patience!
Welcome to another edition of the Photo Friday link-up! You guys continue to amaze me with your posts and the way you support each other!
Last week’s most viewed link came to us from Stephanie at In Her Lens who took us to explore the Zoo.
Our last added link came from Kathy at You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out who shared photos from Week 8 of her 366 project. If you missed the post, do yourself a favorite and check it out. When I first started getting serious about blogging and photography, Kathy was one of the first people that I followed. I love her photographs. She hosts a Song-ography link-up each week – if you are a music buff in addition to being a photographer. Go take a look at Kathy’s work. (I’m a bit of a fan girl. If you couldn’t tell)
Without further ado, I can’t wait to see what you have for us this week!
