Welcome to another edition of Photo Friday…and the 10 on 10 Project! I’m so excited about this week’s photos! It’s a rare synchronicity when Photo Friday and 10 on 10 line-up. I think it’s only happened once before! In case you are new here, 10 on 10 works this way:
A while back, I signed up to be a part of the Clever Cookie School of Blog, and since then I’ve gotten to be good blogging friends with some incredible bloggers from around the world. Each month on the 10th, some of us form a 10 on 10 photography circle. We share 10 photos (occasionally more – my bad!) from our life – a day of our life, generally – and one of us link to another. Our visitors have the opportunity to make their way around the circle. Some of you may have made your way here from Jo at You Had Us at Hello and if so WELCOME! Others of you will leave me and head on off to visit with Sam at The Annoyed Thyroid. I hope you enjoy!
This week’s Photo Friday post is also slightly different because it doesn’t feature the Mississippi Gulf Coast or Mississippi at all. I’m traveling with my Sner this week, and while we are currently in Nashville, earlier this week, we were in Missouri, which is where we (both of us) grew up and were raised. My grandSner is still in Missouri, so we travel to see her a few times a year.
Because I have this fancy new lens for my camera, I’ve suddenly decided that I need to get up before the sun to capture the sunrise. Do you know what time that is? Around these parts, it translates to a 4:45-5:00 wake-up, and during the school year, when I’ve got to get up to get to work, that’s not an issue (except I’m not capturing sunrises – I’m getting ready for work). During summer, though? I have transitioned to my natural biological rhythms which means I’m up until 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning. It’s rough, let me tell ya!
The sunrise was OK in downtown Springfield, but it didn’t compare to my impromptu photowalk during the morning golden hour along the Historic C Street District.
It’s funny to me that all those years I spent growing up in southwest Missouri – living less than 30 miles away from Springfield that we didn’t actually go to Springfield a lot. We went once a week or so for shopping because our little town didn’t have much in the way of a grocery, but beyond that, there was never an exploration of what was around us.
I loved catching glimpses of how the area has been redeveloped. While I was set up with my tripod trying to capture the sunrise, I noticed the area beginning to stir – people coming out of the apartments and lofts above the shops, lights coming on, days beginning.
On one hand, I worry a little bit – I’ve been watching some documentaries, reading some pieces about gentrification and how it’s a bit of a doubled-edged sword because it pushes out the people who were originally in the neighborhood while it brings development and economic revitalization. I’m not so sure that would have been an issue in this particular district – it was originally filled with businesses, which means that on the other hand, perhaps there’s not much to worry about here.
Regardless – I enjoyed my stroll and hope that you do too!
Don’t you just love the sense of whimsy here? It makes me smile!
The old firehouse has been turned into an event space. Non-descript on the outside, but I definitely was attracted to the courtyard garden space.
So I know that I went over the 10 photo rule – can we call it a guideline instead? – for 10 on 10. I couldn’t help it! I have a ton more photos that I could have added, and it was excruciatingly difficult to decide which ones to include. I narrowed down from 84 to 20. And then I only included 13. Admirable restraint, I say.
Do y’all have any spaces like C Street in your neighborhoods? Have you gotten out and explored them? Let me know in the comments! And remember – this is a photography circle! Some of you came to me from Jo at You Had Us at Hello and will be heading on to visit with Sam at The Annoyed Thyroid. Make your way around the circle and leave us some love because you know that we bloggers get tickled over comments! If you are starting with me, you’ll know you’re through the circle when you arrive back here.
And now it’s time for the Photo Friday link-up! The fun never ends around here! Y’all have such great photos to share with us, and I love the way that you support each other. Thank you for making this one of the best link-ups out there!
Last week our most viewed link again came to us from Sadie at Eclectic Trekker who is traveling across the American southwest! That’s one of the trips that I’d like to make. While I’ve driven across New Mexico and Arizona, it’s always been with the intention of getting somewhere – not to stop and enjoy the beauty around me. It’s on my list, and Sadie’s photos make me want to move that up a priority or two!
The final entry last week came from Kathy at You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out who shared a week in her 365 project. Some gorgeous photos there! If you missed her post or some of the others that came after you, consider swinging back by and taking a look!
Without further ado – it’s time for this week’s link-up! Can’t wait to see what y’all have for us!
