Sweet Husband and I have now lived in this house for a little over two years. I’m not sure what it is, but I’m finally (FINALLY!) getting the urge to do some decorating. It’s a rental, but the truth is, that I am pretty sure the owner wouldn’t mind what we did as long as she didn’t have to pay for it. We’ve essentially already redone the front landscaping. Not a word said.
We’ve done a few things – like my book ledges, some of the stuff on the walls. But lately, I want to do a whole bunch more. The problem is that decorating has never really been my thing. I’m not all that good at it. I’m kind of clueless, and I’m always wondering how to pull it all together. There are so many things that I love and so many that I like. How does it all come together? I think, though, that I’ve finally kinda sorta settled on some sort of theme that I can use to unify a home. I’m going to be going for a coastal/southern charm feel. I suppose you could say that I’ve fallen into it.
This bug to decorate started before Christmas break when the dogs ate through 7 sets of blinds (mostly in the kitchen). I found some material to make curtains to replace those blinds. I’m think that probably tomorrow I’ll get around to making the valances to finish that look off. One of these days I’ll get around to some lining materials and back them (no big deal to add in later). The fabric in the kitchen and sunroom isn’t exactly what I want it to be, but it will do for now and until I find the fabric that I’m looking for at a price I’m willing to pay. And maybe tomorrow I’ll get around to sewing the new drapes for in the living room. The Sner got us some fabric that will work. And I need to make some sheer swags to go with the drapes that I found on sale for in our bedroom.
For the meantime, I’ve found some bedding on clearance that makes our spare room a little neater than it was before. I found something that I like to redo the whole room with, but I’m not sure yet that I want to spend $150 on bedding in there. I’ve also found some plans for a few pieces of furniture that I’d like Sweet Husband to build to pull the whole thing together.
I’m pretty much in the same place with our bedroom. I found an art project that I’m ready to get going on for in there, although I think it probably won’t actually happen until spring break. I’ve been searching for a dresser for Sweet Husband for quite awhile – just haven’t found anything I like quite yet. When I find it, then I’ll begin the process of refinishing it and the dresser and nightstand we already have. I haven’t quite found the bedding I’d like for in there yet, but I’m still searching. I kinda really like what we have now, but the problem is that it’s two years old and getting a little raggedy.
There are odds and ends that I’m looking for – I’d like a few oyster baskets. Some photos. A map or two. Rugs. An accent chair.
Then there is question of paint. They paint the walls of this place this terrible off-white that has gotten more yellow as it has aged. I’m not sure exactly what color these walls should be, but I know this isn’t it. It’s awful, and it needs to go. Even a bright white would be better than this. But that’s not what I’m thinking. That kind of change, though, won’t happen unless we buy this house which only happens if I get a job on the coast this spring/summer. If that happens, though – it will be on like a chicken bone.
