My senses are a bit dulled today because I am battling a cold and I cannot smell. I can, though, taste which is a bit odd because taste and smell are so intimately linked. As I’m trying to choke down the Orange Zest Alka Seltzer cold medicine, I know that the orange is slightly bitter, a little salty. Perhaps it is due to the almost neon orange color that it turns in the glass. It is unnatural, and I cannot imagine that any chemical that produces that color creates a pleasant taste. The fizzy bubbles tickle my nose and my upper lip.
For a few brief hours, it relieves the pressure in my head and keeps me from sniffling and feeling like total death warmed over.
