During the month of October, I’m participating in Blogtoberfest with Shells in the Bush and close to 100 other bloggers.
I really wanted to spend some time with this prompt, but once I started digging into it, there were too many songs. I started finding them and then remembering others that were connected to them. And now I’ve got a list that’s too long for me talk about. And there’s too many that I couldn’t find to add to a playlist. Like all those songs from my childhood, those classic country tunes that I still love and turn to when I’m needing a little comfort.
What I will say, though, is that a lot of these songs have accompanied me through many a miles. I’m a wanderer as well as a wonderer, and I’ve journeyed more miles than I can remember. When I had Estaban, my 2001 Honda Accord coupe, I put almost 200,000 miles on him in 6.5 years. When I say I wander, I wander. And some of those landscapes have been lonely. Some of those roads have been long. Some of those trips have been brutal. The AC, a bottle of water, and some good driving tunes were all that managed to get me through it.
Other songs…like Ben Harper’s “By My Side”…have special meaning. That was Sweet Husband’s choice for our first dance at our wedding. “Always on my Mind” stands in for all those times apart, the three years of long-distance relationships, the resumption of that situation.
Take a listen if you’ve a mind to 😉
