So many things were in bloom this weekend in City Park in New Orleans. It’s almost as if in New Orleans, and really all across the deep South, nothing seems to know that the calendar has flipped over to another month, fall has started, the temperatures are dropping and everything is getting ready for a long winter’s sleep. That could be due to the fact that down here in these climes we’re lucky to have more than a handful of days with temperatures below freezing.
Everything in the park was in bloom except the knock-out roses. I’ve noticed for the last month or so that the knock-out roses have been fading, slowly slipping away, and like the roses in my front yard, the masses of them at City Park were also having their last gasp. I’m not sure what they’ll do with them at City Park, but here soon, I’ll be cutting mine back – hoping that next spring, they’ll bush out fuller and more beautiful.
In the meantime, I give you the last gasp of the knock-outs.
