You never know what you will see in New Orleans. As Jimmy Buffet says, the fruitcakes are prevalent on just about every corner. Various street performers, folks in various stages of undress, women walking down the streets in nothing but a g-string and body paint. Particularly in the French Quarter, it is a playground of wondrous sights and sounds.
Every once in awhile, though, you get a reminder that New Orleans is not just a passing carnival – that it a place where people live and work and make a life for themselves. Where they do their grocery shopping, meet up with friends, take their pets to the vet. Or take their puppies to the bar with them.
