The South is a wondrous place in the spring time. There are so many gorgeous things that come to life and paint the world in amazing color. From the first sprouts of the daffodils to the magnolias to the azaleas – it is a glorious time in the world. The pity is that such things only last such a brief time. You have to enjoy them intensely while they are here because they disappear all too quickly.
One of the more fleeting specimens are the daylilies. Most of us have seen the simple orange and yellow day lilies, but they come in so many more varieties. There are daylily shows held across the South so people and view and exclaim over the beauty of more exotic and showy varieties. In our yard at home, we only have a few orange and yellow plants (even though they are supposed to multiply each year). Sweet Husband’s mother has a few more colorful specimens.
One of the things that I’m looking forward to with the new house is planting some perennial beds…a few of which will hopefully be filled with daylilies in all their incredible varieties. There is a place in nearby Meridian that supposedly has an annual bulb sale each year, and I’m hoping that I haven’t already missed it for this year.
