Helpful Websites for English Teachers |
||||||
On this page you'll find links to webpages that may be of interest to English teachers. Some of the sites are for individual teachers; others are sites for literature, poetry, writing, etc. I apologize for the disorganization. Perhaps at a later point in time, I'll seperate things into categories. Clicking on a link will open a new window in your browser. Write-on Illinois: Tim Mooney's site. There's lots of information here, but particularly helpful is that he's collected the websites of many of the teachers on NCTE-Talk, and he's put them all together in one place. International Reading Association: Tons and tons of information about reading. National Council of the Teachers of English: If you're a member of NCTE, you can search current and past issues of journals as well as participate in discussions that are relevant to your classroom. Read, Write, Think: This site is the result of a partnership among NCTE, IRA, and Marco Polo. Find lots of different lessons here and even contribute your own. The National Writing Project: Resources for the teaching of writing. The Writing Fix: This part of the Northern Nevada Writing Project is the brainchild of Corbett Harrision. He's put together a ton of ideas for helping students get started on their writing, including an interactive topic finder. Litplans: The man has a bit too much time on his hands. He's collected over 30,000 on-line lesson plans. Every thing is categorized by the author's last name (author of the book you may be planning to teach...for clarification) English Companion: This is Jim Burke's site. If you're read The English Teacher's Companion, you know how helpful Jim Burke is. Lots and lots of stuff here to help English teachers be better English teachers. Rubistar: Build rubrics on-line, painlessly. English Literature Resources: Criminey. I really don't need to post anything after this link (but I will). It's got just about everything under the sun. Literature Resources: Education Index's links to all things literature related. From online texts to Victorian Women Writers to The Great Books of Western Civilization, you'll find it here. The American Collection: NCTE's site for the study of American Literature. American Literature: A collection of American authors on the web. Hosted by Carnegie Mellon University. SCORE: A collection of "cyberguides" put together by Schools of California Online Resources for Education. Seperated by grade levels. Resources for World Literature: This Dekalb College site includes links to mythology and religion as well as non-western literary criticism. Vandergrift's YA Literature Page: Kay E. Vandergrift's site with links to YA literature as well as reasons to use YA Literature. Young Adult Books: Cynthia Leitich Smith's site with links to young adult books and their authors. Young Adult Literature Resources: A site put together by the Richmond, VA school district. English Education, Young Adult Literature: ASU's site with links to resources for using YA literature in the classroom. Webenglishteacher: Carla Beard's site, which is a very comprehensive collection of links to lesson plans and activities for English teachers. CyberEnglish: Ted Nellen's pioneering work on engaging students by making their work public via the internet. The English Teacher: Leif Danielson's website compiling 32 years of teaching experience. English Teacher John: John Koons site which includes his podcasts as well as a blog and lesson plans. Huffenglish: A site for issues, ideas, and discussion about English Education and Technology.
