ALAN Workshop-Laura Malone ElliotElliot likes to write about real life people in real life crises, when they are facing death and finding life, coming out of the darkness into the light because kids want truth wrapped in hope. They want to see that it is possible to hang on to humanity in the face of carnage. "Love's got responsibility," is a preparation for a harsh world. Under a War-Torn Sky is her father's story. He showed up at home, a week before Christmas. He had been missing for nine months. She decided to use French dialogue in the telling of her father's story because she wanted students to be able to understand the confusion of not being able to understand what others are telling you. She wanted students to have that feeling of disequilibrium. Click here for the next session's notes. Click here to return to the NCTE Convention Notes Homepage. |
